2027's 'Best of the Rest' Distance Freestyle Recruit Allen Gyang Verbalizes Commitment to Michigan
Allen Gyang, a rising star in the world of swimming, has verbally committed to the University of Michigan, marking a significant milestone in his athletic and academic journey. Hailing from the Sandpipers of Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada, Gyang has expressed his honor and excitement about joining the University of Michigan's swimming team in the 2027-28 season. Gyang's swimming prowess is evident in his impressive range, covering both distance and sprint events. He has achieved Summer Nationals cuts in the 100/200 free, Summer Juniors cuts in the 50/500 free, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM, as well as Winter Juniors cuts in the 1000 free and 200 fly. His recent summer performances showcased significant improvements in various events, including the 800 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 400 IM, 100 breast, 200 fly, and 100 fly.
In the 2024-25 short-course season, Gyang continued to excel, securing third and sixth places in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM at the CA/NV Sectionals and Justin Sectionals, respectively. He also set new personal bests in the 200/500 free during these competitions. Additionally, Gyang lowered his 100 free PB and set a new lifetime best in the 200 fly.
Gyang's talent is not limited to freestyle; he has also made his mark in other swimming disciplines. His commitment to Michigan follows in the footsteps of his Sandpipers teammates, Bella Sims and Rebecca Diaconescu, who have previously migrated from the desert to the Great Lakes region.
